Comment to Canada 150: Day 2 of Liberal Party Visioning Conference

March 27, 2010

In the 1990’s, Liberals had a proactive approach to new communications technologies. Ensuring that Canada took the lead in accessibility to the internet was a high priority policy and prominently featured in the Red Book.

Canadians need that kind of vision again. We need a national broadband strategy that gives Canadians access to 21st century communications. Without it, we can’t build a 21st century economy. And we need to bring ALL Canadians with us by making sure that learning and training programs along the lines of the Community Access Program (CAP) are available and accessible in both urban and rural areas.
